About

JenY and JenY circa 1975The JenYs found each other through the fog and mist of corporate life when we both started a new job at a bank “whose name cannot be spoken”…we arrived with all the energy and enthusiasm one brings to a new venture but found it a rather uninspiring and difficult place to be (most of the time)…

One of the surprising facts we discovered as women of a “certain age” (ie 45 years or over), is that we were being treated in a rather disturbing way.  Whilst our male colleagues (especially those middle aged and white) seemed to be going from strength to strength, having their opinions counted, getting those promotions we were sort of put in the “too hard” box and treated, really, like we should put up, shut up and get out of the way…

Now the JenYs are positive girls and we don’t like to linger on negative thoughts and over many chats, coffees, disappointments and frustrations we became each others support team.  We have found a few others on the way – likeminded girls and some boys too.  Rather than focus on “ageism” and “gender” – we feel we have a voice, our kids are adults or almost there and life, as we see it, is full of possibility and more freedom than we had in our 30s.  WE love a challenge, new things, places, people (young, old and in between) and most of all we love learning about all kinds of stuff.

We also e realised that we have had a few experiences from being teens in the 70s,  becoming mothers in the 80s and 90s, travelled here and there with a few adventures (and bad haircuts) thrown in as well as being partners/ wives, daughters, sisters, friends and colleagues (no wonder life feels a little exhausting sometimes)…

So, here we are sharing our voice, opinions and a few stories we find interesting).  Most importantly we feel GenY is a state of mind anyone can have, at any age.
